New Podcast 🎙: Developing Skills For Remote Work
The Institute for Public Administration's First State Insights podcast at the University of Delaware recently interviewed Dr. Paul Hill, Extension Professor and Director of the Rural Online Initiative, and Marta Nielsen, host of the ROI program’s Remote Work Radio podcast. Their conversation covered remote work opportunities for individuals, communities, and regions; skills needed to succeed and lead in the remote environment; efforts by the State of Utah to champion the practice of remote work; and lessons learned through delivering the Rural Online Initiative.

Those Who Switched to Remote Work Have Higher Income, Education and Better Health
Changing remote work patterns have been a major feature of the COVID-19 pandemic, as many workers transitioned from commuting to a workplace to working from home. However, even outside of the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, income, education, and health are closely correlated and their relationship to remote work is one of a wide array of social and economic outcomes of interest to researchers and policymakers.

If You Thought Working From Home Was Messy, Here Comes Hybrid Work
What do you think your work model will be this fall—fully remote, in-person, or a hybrid?
It took months for managers and employees to adjust to working remotely in response to the pandemic. The next era of work might be even more messy with hybrid work. Organizations are laying down new rules and setting expectations for hybrid work as some workers come back in and others remain out of office.
COVID-19 isn’t the only factor weighing on the workplace. Many managers now worry about a brain drain from their ranks. Some companies in the midst of hiring say they can’t find knowledge workers willing to come into an office five days a week.
